Copper or fibre optic — which should I choose?
Copper (Cat 6A or 7) remains ideal for serving workstations: it carries data and power (PoE) over a single cable up to 90 metres, for PCs, Wi-Fi access points, cameras, and IP phones. Fibre optic is the choice for long-distance links, inter-building backbones, very-high-speed data-center links, and disturbed environments. The right architecture usually combines both: fibre for the core network, copper for the last drop.
What is OTDR certification and why is it essential?
Certification is the quality control that proves each link meets its standard. On copper, a tester certifies length, attenuation, crosstalk, and category. On fibre, reflectometry (OTDR) measures the loss of every splice and connector, pinpoints faults to within a metre, and validates the optical budget. Without documented certification there is no performance guarantee: we always deliver the measurements and the acceptance report.
Which copper cabling category should I choose?
Cat 6A (up to 10 Gbit/s over 100 m) is now the standard for new commercial and industrial installations; it comfortably supports PoE++ on recent equipment. Cat 7/7A, fully shielded, is warranted in highly disturbed environments or to anticipate higher throughput. Cat 5e should no longer be deployed in new builds. We size the system to your usage and your growth horizon.
What are the lead times for a fibre optic connection?
For internal optical cabling (backbone, inter-building links), deployment can be planned within a few days to a few weeks depending on the run length and existing ducts. For a carrier connection (dedicated business fibre), the lead time depends on eligibility and civil works, typically a few weeks to a few months. We carry out the eligibility study and coordinate the project.
Does the installation need to comply with NF C 15-100?
NF C 15-100 governs low-voltage electrical installations. Every new or renovated installation must comply, and a compliance upgrade is strongly recommended on older estates: residual-current protection, discrimination, earthing, and labelling. Beyond personal safety, a compliant installation reduces nuisance tripping and fire risk, and underpins your insurance coverage.
Do you also maintain the installation?
Yes. Beyond deployment, we ensure the operational readiness of your electrical and network infrastructure: periodic inspections, switchboard thermography, extensions, and troubleshooting. It is the natural extension of our Operational Readiness (MCO) offering.
